We call this tuna sandwich recipe our big batch recipe. ‘Big batch’ because the recipe makes 100 tea sandwiches. What that means is there is no need for you to do quantity guess work, because we’ve already done that for you! Follow the quantities of this recipe for a birthday party. The kids love it! It’s definitely one of our favorite kid friendly recipes. You can also make this for a high tea event, because it’s sophisticated enough for adults too.
BIG Batch Tuna Sandwich Recipe Ingredients:
- 3 loaves of bread
- 2 large cans of tuna (425g. or 15 oz.)
- 1 stalk of celery, minced
- 1 small red onion (or half a large onion), minced
- 2T. pickles, minced (optional, but it does add a nice flavor to the tuna filling)
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 3T. Dijon mustard
- 1.5t. salt (or more to taste)
- Coral lettuce (optional)
BIG Batch Tuna Sandwich Recipe Method:
1. Mix all the ingredients except the bread and lettuce in a big bowl. Season with more salt if needed.
2. Slice off the skins of the bread. This is of course an optional step, but it does make the sandwiches look more presentable and appetizing when skins are off.
3. Spread the tuna filling on a piece of bread. Top with a lettuce leaf. Then another slice of bread. Carefully slice this into 4 small triangles. Repeat this step. The is recipe will make 100 small tuna sandwich triangles.
Tuna Sandwich for the Lunch Box
Top Tip: Making half a batch of this recipe is also great. I do this to use it as a filling for sandwiches in the kids’ lunch box. Store the tuna filling in a well sealed container in the fridge for up to a week.
