Here is an extremely simple recipe to make your own moon sand at home, so easy that kids can help make it.
But first of, what is moon sand? Moon sand refers to a form of sand play that resembles wet sand. Unlike dry sand that separates easily, moon sand can be molded. Think of it as a cross between sand and clay. Sand play is great for the development of kids’ sensory and fine motor skills. It promotes eye & hand coordination, and it extends kids’ imaginations as they create, manipulate and experiment through play.
There are only 2 things you need, and they are:
- 2kg. Flour
- 2 cups Baby oil
Mix the entire 2 kg. bag of flour with 2 cups of baby oil… until the texture resembles coarse meal…
And that’s it! Your kids are all set to play, experiment, mold and have fun!
My kids can last hours just playing with moon sand, and here are some of the things they do with them… Pour, scoop, rake, mold and use their imagination with moon sand! I’m sure your kids can think up of many more creative plays with moon sand.
Some added bonuses of this DIY moon sand recipe are that it smells wonderful (the scent of the baby oil) and it dusts off easily.
Remember to keep the moon sand in an airtight container after play, and this should last you months!
